Edgar Allen Poe, the father of the short story, the mystery story and the first sci-fi
short story, is a remarkable poet whose mournful and never ending memories will be
remembered by readers for centuries to come. His life was the basis of his work. He
virtually created the detective story and perfected the pshchological thriller. He also
produced some of the most influential literary criticism of his time-important
theoretical statements on poetry and the short story-and has had worldwide influence on
