SOCRATES' ARGUMENTS REGARDING MORAL CONVENTIONALISMIn assessing the validity of Socrates' arguments regarding moral conventionalism, Plato presents a multitude of premises on which Socrates' argument is based. These premises both support and weaken Socrates' beliefs against Sophist teachings. However, Socrates' argument is filled with inconsistencies and inadequacies that affect the overall effectiveness of the arguments presented. Many weaknesses are present in Socrates' defense of overriding morality and collectively these flaws lead to the demise of both Socrates and the Sophist triumph regarding universally binding morality.
